BROOKSVILLE, Fla. -- The USC Beaufort men's golf team saw its bid to repeat as Sun Conference champion fall short Tuesday, as the Sand Sharks endured a tough day on the links and finished in fourth place at Southern Hills Plantation.
USCB senior Jack Bingham continued his strong play, closing with a 3-over-par 75 to finish tied for second place at 5-over 221, but the team was unable to hold onto the one-shot lead it had entering the final round.
The Sand Sharks finished the 54-hole event with a 918 total. Webber International won the team title at 898, followed by St. Thomas at 907 and Johnson & Wales at 910. Omar Tejeira of St. Thomas ran away with the individual title, winning by six shots over Bingham and two others.
Seniors Luke McClellan (T-14th, 229) and Mark Phillips (T-19th, 233) also cracked the top 20 for USCB. Brian Langley (T-26th, 236) and Travis Cashion (41st, 249) rounded out USCB's lineup.
The Sand Sharks now await the release of the at-large qualifiers for the NAIA National Championships, which will be held May 22-25 in Salem, Ore.
