  • The Lowcountry Master Gardeners Association has established an annual scholarship for students from Beaufort, Colleton and Jasper counties who are attending Clemson University. To be eligible, students must be majoring in horticulture, turfgrass, agricultural education, forestry or environmental and natural resources. For more information, students should contact Clemson's financial aid office, which is administering the scholarship.

  • The Governor's School for Science and Mathematics will host GoSciTech, a summer camp program that includes physics, chemistry, robotics, electronics and programming, anatomy and marine biology. The camp is open to rising eighth- through 10th-graders from across the state and sessions are in June. Applications are due May 10. Details:

  • Battery Creek High School


  • The PTSO will meet at 6:30 p.m. April 26. All juniors and seniors planning to attend prom must attend this meeting along with a parent.

  • The school's athletic department will hold sports physicals 9-11 a.m. May 5 for $10.

  • Beaufort Academy


  • Speeches for SADD officers are due Monday to Mrs. Rhatigan.

  • The Spanish Honor Society luncheon will be at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday.

  • A blood drive is scheduled noon-4 p.m. Thursday.

  • Prom is at 8 p.m. Saturday.

  • The school is offering an SAT prep course for all Beaufort area students on Saturdays, April 21-May 19. Enrollment is open until Wednesday; cost is $350. Details: 843-524-3393

  • Beaufort High School


  • The annual Miss BHS Pageant will be held at 7 p.m. Friday in the Arts Center at Beaufort High. Tickets are $7 in advance, $10 day of the pageant. A portion of proceeds will benefit the Celestine Lewis/Eleanor Mack Leadership Scholarship fund. Details:

  • Calling all Beaufort and Battery Creek high male alumni: a flag football game will be held at 7 p.m. May 25. Any former student who would like to help in this fundraising effort for the yearbook staffs at both schools is invited to participate. Details: 843-322-2000 or 843-322-5580

  • Lady's Island Elementary School


  • Thursday is a Chick-Fil-A spirit night 5:30-7:30 p.m.

  • The school's book fair will run April 30-May 4.


  • Students have collected $1,150.84 for Pennies for Patients, a service and philanthropy program that helps people with blood cancers. The top fundraisers were Mrs. Samuel's second-grade class. They will have a pizza party and receive a bronze pennant for raising $178.57. Mrs. Spence's fourth-grade class will receive a bronze pennant for raising $108.14.

  • Lady's Island Middle and Intermediate schools


  • Erika Powell, Miss South Carolina, will host a session on pregnancy prevention for families of middle and high school students at 6 p.m. May 4 at the school. Details: 843-322-5448

  • Mossy Oaks Elementary School


  • Class group pictures and individual spring pictures will be taken Tuesday. The group photos cost $8 and must be preordered.

  • Mossy Oaks Elementary PTO and students invite everyone to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life event. The event begins at 7 p.m. Friday at the Beaufort Middle School track and runs until 7 a.m. Entrance is free. The school's PTO will be selling baked goods as a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society.

  • Riverview Charter School


  • The school's annual Family Event will be May 6. The event features bounce houses, water slides, dunk booths and fair food. More details will be announced soon.

  • Reunions/Alumni

  • The Beaufort High School Class of 1958 Tidal Wave Breakfast Club meetings are at 9 a.m. on the first Saturday of each month at Golden Corral, 122 Robert Smalls Parkway. Details: 843-525-1822, 843-524-8903

  • The Beaufort High School Class of 1972's 40th reunion will consist of two events on June 29 and 30. From 6 to 11 p.m. June 29, alumni will gather at Darrah Hall at the Penn Center on St. Helena Island. From 7 to 11 p.m. June 30, alumni will gather for a banquet at the Marine Corps Air Station Officer's Club. Tickets are $80 for both events. Details: 843-263-7657, 843-838-2794
