Religion News: All Saints preschoolers reach out to Dominican Republic school

charley@beaufortgazette.comApril 21, 2012

Heather Bender, a teacher at All Saints Episcopal Church Preschool, leads her students in assembling Jesus bracelet kits for the students at La Redencion Episcopal School in the Dominican Republic.

SPECIAL TO LOWCOUNTRY LIFE

All Saints Episcopal Church Preschool students are sharing their hearts with 13 students at La Redencion Episcopal School in Barahona, Dominican Republic -- all while learning a new language and a little geography.

All Saints students became interested in La Redencion after seeing a bulletin board at their church that displayed stories about the Dominican Republican students and information about All Saints' outreach mission there. The La Redencion students are supported through scholarships underwritten by All Saints' congregation.

All Saints students have sent crosses and pictures of themselves to the students of their companion school. They are learning the Spanish versions of "Jesus Loves Me" and "He's Got the Whole World in His Hands," as well as Spanish words for numbers and colors. They also know how to locate Barahona on a world map. And 4-year-old students even assembled colorful beaded Jesus bracelets for the students.
