In their final tune-up before the Sun Conference Championships, the USC Beaufort track and field teams competed in the Chanticleer Classic on Saturday in Myrtle Beach.

The sprinters and jumpers had the weekend off to prepare for the conference meet, but the distance runners and throwers had a good showing. Senior Katie Mock led the way with a second-place finish in the 3K steeplechase, running a school-record time of 14 minutes, 3 seconds, and Anthony Vecchio (1:58.84) was second in the 800 meters, just .31 seconds behind UNC Wilmington's Kelly Carmichael.

Freshman Ty'Chelle Freeman was third in the women's shot put with a throw of 12.32 meters, and Jessica Brown (2:34.46) was sixth in the women's 800.

Frank Tinsley (2:00.99) and John Stanas (2:05.02) were seventh and ninth in the men's 800. Tommy Reeves (4:19.86) was eighth in the 1,500 meters.

Prashant Robinson was 10th in the men's shot put (10.9 meters) and 11th in the discus (31.36 meters).
