After 13 years, Red Door Thrift has moved from its familiar but cramped store to a location with twice the space and more convenient parking.
The store benefits Friends of Caroline Hospice, the only free United Way hospice program in the county, said Caroline Hospice development director Jane Lachman.
Red Door moved from 1225 Ribaut Road in Port Royal to 1100 Ribaut Road, Suite B, in Beaufort about two weeks ago. The expanded store is beside Dollar General, and the change has been astounding, Lachman said. With more display space, the store feels less thrift and more retail, she said, and items are selling faster.
In addition to moving the overnight donation shed to the new store, Red Door now has a back entrance for large donations.
"Just come up and ring our doorbell," assistant manager Dell Villemaire said with a laugh, explaining she didn't know the bell was there until someone rang it this week.
Along with separate rooms for books, children's wear, men's clothing and housewares, volunteers have much more space for accepting and sorting donations.
The store is looking for volunteers, especially ones who can commit to four hours a week, Villemaire said.

A grand opening celebration and ribbon cutting will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday. Friends of Caroline Hospice plans to showcase Red Door during its annual fashion show luncheon, Transitions, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. April 25at The Shed, 809 Paris Ave., Port Royal.
