Hilton Head emergency responders honored at annual ceremony

Lt. Kevin Osterstock and Firefighter Tim Huser were given the Meritorious Cross Award by the Town of Hilton Head Island Fire & Rescue Division for rescuing a civilian from a burning home.

The award was among those presented Friday at the Crowne Plaza during the division's annual ceremony to recognize firefighters, paramedics and dispatchers for their work over the past year.

The Citizens Service Medal went to Sgt. Brooker Devore and dispatcher Elizabeth Regan from Palmetto Dunes for communications supporting a rescue effort during a structure fire.

Firefighter Steve Kenyon received the Order of the Maltese from the S.C. Fire Academy, a badge of honor signifying courage.

Other award winners were:

Officer of the Year, Lt. Jason Walters.

EMT of the Year, Capt. Tom Bouthillet.

Employee of the Year, Capt. Eric Lainhart.

Firefighter of the Year, Lt. Justin Cunningham.

Dispatcher of the Year, Lorean Grant.

Leadership Award, communications manager Cathy Gooding.

Chief's Award, Dr. Bozeman Sherwood and Senior Mechanic Steve Bussius.

Letters of Commendation went to Firefighter James Lawson, Senior Firefighter Robert Ferguson, dispatchers Tammye Brown and Melody Annis, Lt. Jason Walters, Lt. Chris Blankenship, Lt. Colin Fanning and Capt. Eric Lainhart.
