The USC Beaufort softball team pushed preseason Sun Conference favorite St. Thomas to two more close finishes Saturday, hanging on for a 7-6 win in the series finale after losing a 2-1 heartbreaker in the first game of the doubleheader in Miami Gardens, Fla.

Just like they did in the series opener, the Sand Sharks took a one-run lead into the seventh only to watch the Bobcats (6-11 overall, 3-3 Sun) rally for a dramatic win. St. Thomas shortstop Natalie Sacramento delivered the winning two-run single with one out -- only the third hit of the day against USCB pitcher Caroline Pastre.

Shelby Zipperer drove in USCB's only run in the first game. She and Melanie Goolsby each had two hits in the game.

The Sand Sharks (25-6, 7-4) rebounded for a big win in the finale, managing their own rally. After falling behind 4-2 after three innings, USCB rallied for four runs in the fourth on an inside-the-park home run by Goolsby and a two-run shot to center by Katie Rietkovich.

The Bobcats tied it with two runs in the fifth, but Mariaha Sanborn's fielder's choice scored Rietkovich with the eventual winning run in the sixth.

Kristy Cook earned the win, allowing six runs over five innings, and Cara Jamerson pitched two perfect innings for the save.

Rietkovich had three hits, and Zipperer and Barbara Phillips added two apiece in the finale.

The Sand Sharks return home for a doubleheader against Voorhees College starting at 1 p.m. Wednesday.
