Riverview Charter School will move into Shell Point Elementary School's building this summer.

The Beaufort County Board of Education unanimously approved a two-year lease, allowing the charter school to move into a building that the school board voted to shutter at the end of this school year. Board members Steven Morello, Wayne Carbiener and Julie Bell were absent.

The lease is about $270,000 a year and begins July 15, Riverview director Alison Thomas said.

Riverview's board approved an agreement earlier this month. School board Chairman Fred Washington said the lease approved Friday grants Riverview's request to remove enrollment caps that had been written into the lease by the district.

The lease now goes to Riverview's board for signing. Riverview and district officials recently met to settle details, so neither side expects a problem.

Moving to Shell Point will give Riverview the space to enroll 456 students next year, Riverview board chairman Mike Freeman said. The charter school's board recently approved enrolling that number, up from 342, but plans for an enrollment lottery are still under way.

The Board of Education also approved Riverview's minority staff-recruitment plan and annual report Friday. Those votes also were unanimous.
