Yemassee man killed in Jasper County car crash

A 29-year-old Yemassee man was killed in a one-car crash Thursday near Interstate 95 in Jasper County, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol.

Herbert Solomon Ford was driving north on West Frontage Road between Point South and Coosawhatchie at about 10:50 a.m. when he drove off the right side of the road, patrol spokesman Cpl. Bob Beres said.The road runs parallel to I-95 in Jasper County.

Beres said Ford overcorrected, lost control of his 2003 Ford Taurus, then drove off the left side of the road and struck a tree. He was wearing a seat belt, according to the patrol.

Ford was pronounced dead at the scene, Jasper County Coroner Martin Sauls said.

The Highway Patrol is investigating the crash, Beres said.
