  • Students from Beaufort, Colleton and Jasper counties who are attending Clemson University for horticulture, turfgrass, agricultural education, forestry, or environmental and natural resources. The scholarship was established by the Lowcountry Master Gardeners. Details: Contact Clemson's Financial Aid office.

    ACHIEVEMENTS

  • Congratulations to the following new Teacher Cadets for the 2012-13 school year: Khadijah Badger, Kallie Brown, Ayanna Cobban, Nathaniel Cooper, Spencer Collins, Chris Heyward, Michelle Jenkins, Katlin Kardohely, Tina Kwok, Grayson Morgan, Walicia Patterson, Kelsey Poole, Lataisha Smalls and Sara Wilson. The program is aimed at creating an interest in the teaching profession and to promote understanding of the educational system. Toward the end of the program, students work closely with a teacher in Battery Creek cluster schools.

  • Congratulations to Jackson Canaday for his prize-winning photo in the Dale Wescott Memorial Nature Photography Contest, sponsored by the Photography Club of Beaufort. Canaday's photo of a sunrise over a marsh won second place and $75.

  • Personality pictures will be taken from 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesday in the school's wrestling rooms. Details: 843-322-2000

  • Calling all Battery Creek and Beaufort high male alumni: a flag football game will be held at 7 p.m. May 25.   • Congratulations to Laura Roddey for her prize-winning photo in the Dale Wescott Memorial Nature Photography Contest, sponsored by the Photography Club of Beaufort. Her photo titled, "Charlottesville" earned an honorable mention and $25.

  • The AMES arts night will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Beaufort High School Performing Arts Center.

  • The SIC meets at 5:30 p.m. today in the media center.

  • Hoops for the Heart will be celebrated Friday. Any student who raises $50 will be able to participate in basketball, soccer, flag football or cardio ball on Friday. Students who raise another $50 can bring a friend to participate. Proceeds go to the American Heart Association.

  • MAP testing begins Monday. Students test better if they are well-rested and eat a good breakfast.

  • Report cards can be picked up at the front office beginning at 2:35 p.m. Friday.

  • Extended Learning Time will run from 7:30 a.m. to 2:35 p.m. April 2 through 5.

  • Child Find will take place this week.

  • The community is invited to the fourth grade's presentation of "The Adventures of Lewis and Clark" at 2 p.m. Thursday. The musical journey will tell the story of Meriwether Lewis and William Clark as they explored the Louisiana Purchase.

  • Report cards will be sent home Friday.

  • The PTO is planning a yard sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 21 at the school. A table may be purchased for $10. Any unsold items will be donated to CAPA.

  • RIVERVIEW CHARTER SCHOOL

  • The school's board of directors will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the commons at the school.

  • Thursday is Chick-fil-A Spirit Night. If you go to the restaurant between 5:30 and 7:30 p.m., 10 percent of proceeds will be donated to Riverview.

  • The next Uniform Free Friday is Friday. Bring $5 to dress out of uniform.

  • MAP testing for all grade levels begins today and lasts through April 27.

  • The Beaufort High School Class of 1972's 40th reunion will consist of two events on June 29 and 30. From 6 to 11 p.m. June 29, alumni will gather at Darrah Hall at the Penn Center on St. Helena Island.
