Ridgeland motorcyclist dies after Friday collision

A Ridgeland motorcyclist has died after being injured in a crash Friday night near the foot of the Broad River Bridge, authorities said.

Luis Cardovo was killed when the motorcycle he was riding was struck by a pickup truck near the intersection of Robert Smalls Parkway and Savannah Highway, said Beaufort County Coroner Ed Allen.

Additional information about Cardovo's age and where he was pronounced dead was unavailable. The Burton Fire District, responded to the crash. Cardovo was taken Beaufort Memorial Hospital immediately following the collision.

The driver of the pickup truck was not injured, authorities said.

Allen said the Port Royal Police Department is investigating the crash.
