Beaufort County School District

EVENTS Kindergarten and pre-kindergarten registration for Beaufort County schools is today-Friday. To register for kindergarten, students must be 5 years old by Sept. 1. Bring the child's birth certificate, shot record and two proofs of residency to the elementary school in your attendance area. To register for pre-kindergarten, students must be 4 years old by Sept. 1. Students must be screened March 26-30 at the elementary school in their attendance area. PASS testing for writing is Tuesday and Wednesday for third- and fifth-graders.

Bluffton Elementary School

Bluffton High School

EVENTS Bluffton High School JROTC will hold its annual Parking Lot Sale fundraiser 9 a.m.-3 p.m. March 24 in the teacher's parking lot of the school, 12 H.E. McCracken Circle, Bluffton. JROTC Boosters will sell coffee and bake sale items to start the day, and hotdogs, hamburgers and beverages later in the day. A local thrift organization will receive unwanted, unsold items. Bluffton Middle School

ACHIEVEMENTS The school's Honors Band scored a rating of "excellent" at the Beaufort County School District Concert Festival. Congratulations to sixth- and seventh-grade band students and Ms. Gabbey.

Student Abigail Quiles was selected for the top 10 in the middle school essay category in the Annual S.C. Dialogue Foundation annual Art and Essay Contest.

Mustangs of the Month for February are Robyn Johnson, Miguel Gallegos, Jacob Middlebrook, Kaylin Story, Elena White, Tyrone Mitchell, Virginia Scott, Lucas Sosa, Charlese Carmichael and Daniel Patino.

EVENTS Girl Scouts will meet 6:30-7:30 p.m. March 19 in D106.

The Grandparents Raising Grandchildren support group will meet at 5:30 p.m. March 19 at Hilton Head Island Elementary School.

A fifth-grade parent night will be held March 20. It will be an information night for incoming sixth-grade students.

The last day of the third quarter is March 23.

PTO will meet at 5 p.m. March 27 in the media center.

An SIC work session will be held at 6 p.m. March 27 in the media center.

Report cards will be sent home March 30.

ENRICHMENT Students are encouraged to use Compass Learning at home to prepare for PASS testing, which is scheduled for May 8-11. Please contact your child's teachers or Ms. Blankenship at mary.blankenship@beaufort.k12.sc.us for more information on the program.

Mr. Woodring's computer lab is open until 3:30 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays for students needing extra help.

HELPING HANDS Bluffton Middle School teachers are requesting donations of books, magazines or books on tape for classroom libraries.

Don't forget to help the school by using your Publix Partners card, selecting our school if you participate in the Target or Parker's debit card system, eating at Giuseppi's in Bluffton on Tuesdays and by sending in box tops.

OTHER As part of the Lowe's Community Outreach program, Lowe's employees provided materials and labor to build an outdoor classroom for the school. On March 8, Dr. Dereck Rhoads, staff and students welcomed Lowe's employees with a grand opening and ribbon cutting for the new classroom. The school would like to thank Lowe's for its generosity.

H.E. McCracken Middle School

Hilton Head Christian Academy

EVENTS Moms In Prayer International will meet at 8 a.m. March 19.

CPT4 testing for first- through 10th-grade students will take place March 19-22.

Moms At Prayer will meet 8 a.m.-9 a.m. March 22.

Fellowship of Christian Athletes will meet at 7 a.m. March 22 in the cafeteria.

Parents of HHCA, Hilton Head Preparatory School and St. Francis Catholic School students are invited to attend "Trends and Fads," presented by the Beaufort County Drug and Alcohol Prevention Team, at 7 p.m. March 26 in the gymnasium. Learn about the products, games and risky activities that are facing young people today. Admission is free.

The Lower School Preview Night will be 7-8:15 p.m. March 27. Prospective families for grades K-4 are invited to an evening highlighting the lower school program.

Hilton Head Island Elementary School

ACHIEVEMENTS Students participated, for the first time, in The Heritage Classic Foundation's RBC Heritage Plaid About Reading program. Students in kindergarten through fifth grade had the opportunity to win $500 for their school, tickets to the RBC Heritage and a school visit from a professional PGA Tour golfer. From those classrooms that participated, the top reader was Edgar Romero in Jennifer Smith's second-grade class. Ms. Smith's students also read the most books.

EVENTS A Grandparents Raising Grandchildren support group will meet 5:30-6:30 p.m. March 19.

OTHER Parents: The lost and found is enormous. Please check if your student is missing a lunchbox or clothing item. It is located in the front office closet.

The monthly grade level town hall meeting will honor the student of the month with an Otter Award.

Hilton Head Island Elementary School for the Creative Arts

EVENTS Third-graders will perform "Planet Rock -- A Rockin' Rock Show" at 2 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. March 22 at the Hilton Head Island High School Visual and Performing Arts Center.

OTHER Theater teacher Harry Culpepper has been elected chairman of the professional division of the S.C. Theatre Association.

Hilton Head Island High School

ACHIEVEMENTS Several students are finalists in the University of South Carolina Beaufort Emerging Artists competition as part of the Celebrate the Arts Festival. Their artwork will be on display March 23-April 20 in the USCB gallery. Karimen Ambrocio Alcantara is a place winner. Other finalists were: Adrian Austin, Jessica Bonilla, Karla Boyd, Samantha Campbell, Ross Dungan, Miles Helman, Robin Kaeding, Will Lattman, Leanne Pawlak, Kim Mandigo, Bernabe Torres and Santiago Tovar.

Hilton Head Island Middle School

ACHIEVEMENTS The school now has International Baccalaureate authorization. Thanks go out to everyone who supported the school in the process.

EVENTS MAP testing for writing for eight graders is March 20-21. Please make sure your students are at school on time. Regular MAP testing for eighth-graders will begin March 26.

The seventh grade dance will be 7-9 p.m. March 23.

Spring Break is April 2-6. School resumes April 9.

ELT is April 2-5. Uniforms are required.

The eighth-grade celebration and dance will be June 8.

HELPING HANDS Please keep turning in your box tops to your homeroom teacher or the main office. The school receives $0.10 for each box top turned in.

As a reminder to parents: No students are released after 2 p.m. Please bring a valid ID when signing out your student.

Hilton Head Preparatory School

EVENTS The Parents Association will meet at 8 a.m. Marchc 21 in the media center.

The next "Coffee with Anthony" will be held at 8:15 a.m. March 22 in the dining hall.

An open house for kindergarten through second-grade students will be from 6 to 7 p.m. March 26. All prospective parents are welcome.

OTHER "Tuesday Tours" are given weekly from 9 to 11:00 a.m. for prospective families who are interested in learning more about the school.

May River Montessori

EVENTS May River Montessori students will present "Aesop's Adventures" as their spring opera March 24.

ENRICHMENT Suzuki violin lessons are now offered 2:30-5 p.m. Tuesdays.

OTHER May River Montessori is now accepting applications for a limited number of spaces available for the 2012-13 school year.

During 2012, May River Montessori is celebrating its 25th year providing an outstanding Montessori education for the families and children in our community.

Michael C. Riley Elementary School

EVENTS Fourth-grade students will have an in-house field trip with High Touch High Tech March 19-20. The focus will be on "Meteorology Madness." High Touch High Tech delivers in-school science workshops.

Chick-fil-A Spirit Night is 5-8 p.m. March 21.

Okatie Elementary School

EVENTS March 19 starts the second session for second-grade swimmers.

The March Madness Math Bowl is March 23. Students who pay $1 can wear their favorite team hat.

Pritchardville Elementary School

OTHER Child Find registration is this week. Pre-K Child Find screenings are March 26-April 30. Register at the school in your zone.

Red Cedar Elementary School

EVENTS RESPECT assemblies will be held March 22-23 for kindergarten through fifth grades. Parents and family are welcome to attend.

Sea Pines Montessori Academy

EVENTS The March Community Meeting is at 6:30 p.m. March 20 and will showcase the Upper School Science Fair.

Spirit Day is every Friday. Please wear SPMA logo wear to school.

Student lunch orders from Bess' Deli are due in the front office by 10 a.m. Fridays for the following week.

St. Francis Catholic School

EVENTS March 19 is the first day of the fourth quarter. Third quarter report cards will be sent home in Take Home Tuesday folders.

The next Bank in School -- Squirrels Saver Day is 7:45-8:25 a.m. March 21. Bank representatives will be available in the school lobby to accept student deposits and answer any banking questions.

School Mass is at 10 a.m. March 21 .

The fifth-grade science fair will be held March 22 in their classrooms.

There will be an early dismissal at 11:30 a.m. March 22 for parent/teacher conferences in the afternoon.

School will be closed March 23 for parent/teacher conferences.

OTHER Hot lunch orders for April are online now. Orders and payment are due in to the school office by 9 a.m. March 22.
