Hilton Head chamber showcases new resource for small businesses

The area's independent businesses need help hiring, planning and marketing, the Hilton Head Island-Bluffton Chamber of Commerce believes, so it has a new tool kit to help them.

Available to members and nonmembers alike, the online tool kit also offers information about on financial planning, government contracting, insurance, and sales.

"Our mission at the chamber is to help our local, small businesses succeed, thereby stimulating the regional economy," chamber president Bill Miles said. "The small-business tool kit is a terrific resource for small-business owners and those who want to start their own small business."

Chamber spokeswoman Charlie Clark said the intent was to create a "one-stop shop" for entrepreneurs, adding its introduction is consistent with a commitment to online information the chamber first made a few years ago with its "Think Hilton Head" website.

That site offers data on local demographics and tourism and is updated weekly. It has generated more than 20,000 page views in the past year alone, according to the chamber.

Maria Kramer of the Center for Event Management and Hospitality Training at the University of South Carolina Beaufort said she welcomes the chamber's online outreach.

"It's all been very useful to me," she said, adding she uses many of the resources for research purposes.

"Instead of having to view several different county and state websites, I found all the data I needed on one website," she said.
