Thomas Heyward 11, Palmetto Christian 1 (5 inn.): Four Thomas Heyward pitchers combined to throw a one-hitter with nine strikeouts as the Rebels improved to 4-0. Joe Laycock started and went two innings, followed by one inning apiece from Jason Quick, Bryan Lee Wade and JD Tuten.

Forest Richardson was 2 for 2 to lead the offense, which had 12 hits.

The Rebels host Colleton Prep at 6:30 p.m. Monday.

Ashley Ridge 7, Bluffton 3 (Wednesday): Jake Martin was 2 for 3 with a double, but the Bobcats fell to 0-2 on the season.

Bluffton hosts Colleton County at 3 p.m. Saturday.

Middle School: Hilton Head Island 15, Whale Branch 1 (4 inn.)


Beaufort High 15, Battery Creek 2 (5 inn.): Jenny Mullins (2-2) threw a no-hitter, striking out 15, and the Eagles (3-2) had 18 hits, led by Megan Cieplowski's three.

Michelle Brown, Jessica Bennett, Mullins, Carli Cline, Morgan Peeples and Sydney Bourg each added a pair of hits for Beaufort High, which plays at 6:30 p.m. tonight at Hilton Head Island High.

Battery Creek (1-2) hosts Wade Hampton at 6 p.m. Monday.

JV: Battery Creek 8, Beaufort 6


Battery Creek 6, Whale Branch 1: Freshman Cali Caulder scored three goals to lead the Dolphins to the victory.

Whale Branch had cut the deficit to 2-1 in the first half, but Battery Creek responded with two goals before halftime and tacked on two more in the second half.

Kimberley Vigil, Jasmine Wallace and Mandy Mahan each scored one goal for the Dolphins (1-1). Stephanie Colleran made three saves in goal, and Caitlin Holland came in for the second half to make one save.

Battery Creek hosts Garrett at 7 tonight.


Summerville 2, Hilton Head Island High 1: Ben Amon and Joe Amon scored to put Summerville ahead 2-0, but the Seahawks were unable to rally.

Chris MacMurray scored for Hilton Head High (0-2) with about 10 minutes remaining.

Goalkeeper Mike Ritterbeck finished with five saves for the Seahawks, who host Brookland Cayce at 2 p.m. Saturday, following the varsity girls matchup.


Match at Island West: Hilton Head Island High came out on top of a four-way match with Bluffton, Beaufort High and Whale Branch. The Seahawks finished with a 161 total, six strokes ahead of Bluffton. Beaufort High was third with 170, and Whale Branch had 286.

Beaufort High's Taylor Simonsen was medalist, firing a 38. Bluffton's Alec Weary and Elliott Johnson were next, each carding 39s.
