Coffee lovers can enjoy a long-brewing development on Hilton Head Island's north end: Dunkin' Donuts is finally open.
Local franchisee Chi Wang announced plans last February to open a store in a former bank building in the Southwood Plaza, but he couldn't secure a construction permit until this past fall.
The 4,500-square-foot store opened Tuesday at 4 Southwood Park near William Hilton Parkway.
"It's been my goal to have this be the place where people come to hang out," Wang said. "It's comfortable and spacious."
Customers can also make use of a meeting room, which can accommodate 12 to 15 people and offers free wireless Internet access.
Wang said he decided to install the room after parents of Hilton Head Christian Academy students told him their children might need a place to study.
The store isn't quite complete; Wang said he's hoping to add two televisions by the end of the week.
He also owns franchises in Beaufort and in Jasper County near Interstate 95 exit 8. Wang said he intends to open additional locations on the island's south end and in Bluffton.
