Five area players were honored by the S.C. Basketball Coaches Association as all-state selections.

Bluffton High School placed two on all-state teams. Guard Tibra Wheeler made the Class 3-A girls team. Forward Bryson Bell was picked for the Class 3-A boys team.

Hilton Head Island High School's Sabrina Drammis was also selected to the Class 3-A girls team.

In Class 1-A, Ridgeland guard April Jenkins and Whale Branch forward S'Nitra Mack made the all-state girls team.

Bell helped lead the Bobcats boys to their best season, though the team was booted in the first round of the Class 1-A playoffs Tuesday.

Bell averaged 14.8 points per game with 9.7 rebounds and 2.5 blocks. His offseason was spent working on his jump shot to create another dimension to his game, and it paid off.

Wheeler did a little of everything in helping lead the Bobcats girls, who play at Crestwood today in the second round of the Class 3-A playoffs. She averages 12.8 points, 5.3 rebounds, 3.7 steals and 4.9 assists.

Jenkins, named by coaches before the season as one of the top five seniors in Class 1-A, has again led the defensive effort for the Jaguars. She leads the team in points (12.4), steals (5.6) and assists (4.3).

SCISAA PLAYOFF BRCKETS RELEASED

Undefeated Thomas Heyward Academy girls basketball team will start its run at a SCISAA Class 2-A state championship Friday, when it plays Byrnes School at 6 p.m. at Porter-Gaud. The Rebels finished the regular season 23-0.

Following the Rebels' game, also at Porter-Gaud, No. 7 seed Beaufort Academy faces No. 2 seed Colleton Prep.

In the boys Class 2-A playoffs, No. 7 seed Beaufort Academy plays second-seeded Spartanburg Christian on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Wilson Hall.

At the Class 3-A level, Hilton Head Christian opens with Wilson Hall at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Sumter Civic Center. The Eagles received a No. 6 seed and Wilson Hall a third seed. The Eagles girls play Laurence manning at Wilson Hall on Friday at 8 p.m. And No. 5 seed Hilton Head Prep girls face fourth-seeded Augusta Christian at Sumter Civic Center on Friday at 5 p.m.

REBELS DOMINATE ALL-REGION HONORS

The Thomas Heyward girls basketball team earned recognition this week for finishing the regular season undefeated.

Four Rebels earned all-region honors from SCISAA Region I-AA. Thomas Heyward's Brielle Jungblut was named the region's top player and Gary Mazzanna earned coach of the year honors.

Thomas Heyward's Caitlyn Cooler, Jaimie Malphrus and Ashlie Layman also made the team. Beaufort Academy's Miranda Weslake was also an all-region pick.

The Rebels finished the regular season 23-0 and open the Class 2-A playoffs Friday with Byrnes School at Porter-Gaud.
