LifeStar transports motorcyclist from Buckwalter Parkway after crash

A motorcyclist suffered serious injuries in a wreck with an SUV at 2:20 p.m. today on Buckwalter Parkway and was flown by LifeStar helicopter to a Savannah hospital for treatment, according to the Bluffton Police Department.

The motorcycle was traveling north on Buckwalter Parkway when it struck the side of an SUV pulling out of the parking lot of Church of the Cross, a news release said.

The motorcyclist, who was not wearing a helmet, was tossed from his motorcycle and found on the ground by emergency responders with serious injuries. Traffic on Buckwalter Parkway was shut down as a LifeStar helicopter airlifted the victim to Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah, the release said.

The driver of the SUV was not injured. The Bluffton Police Department is investigating the collision.
