Deputies investigating a report of a missing 7-week-old infant in Beaufort on Sunday found the child unharmed early Monday with his father, who admitted to abusing drugs and alcohol while the child was in the back seat of his car, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.

The infant's father, Garrett Taylor, and Taylor's brother, Cody Taylor, both of Beaufort, have been arrested on felony charges of child neglect, according to the county detention center log.

The infant's mother flagged down officers in Beaufort to report the child missing at about 11:30 p.m. Sunday, triggering a search because of Garrett Taylor's reported "severe substance abuse problem," Sgt. Robin McIntosh said.

Garrett Taylor returned home with Cody Taylor and the sleeping infant at about 3 a.m. and told deputies he had been smoking marijuana, using cocaine and drinking alcohol while the child was with him, McIntosh said.

Garrett Taylor's bond was set at $5,000, and Cody Taylor is being held for prosecution, according to the jail log.
