WRESTLING
White Knoll 49, Beaufort High 18: The Eagles' team season came to a quick halt Saturday, as White Knoll defeated them in the opening round of the Class 4-A playoffs.
The match was closer than the final score might indicate, with Beaufort High (28-9) holding an 18-16 lead at one point. According to coach Bill DaMude, only one of the first nine matches of the day was decided by pin. But with three forfeits soon to follow, the Eagles' chances faded fast.
JaClay Mixon (170 pounds), Thyrik Legree (182), Clint Wright (195) and Maliek Maldonado (220) were the only Beaufort wrestlers to earn victories.
The Eagles now are off until the Lower State individual tournament Feb. 17-18 at Fort Dorchester. The top four qualifiers there advance to the state meet.
