White Knoll 49, Beaufort High 18: The Eagles' team season came to a quick halt Saturday, as White Knoll defeated them in the opening round of the Class 4-A playoffs.

The match was closer than the final score might indicate, with Beaufort High (28-9) holding an 18-16 lead at one point. According to coach Bill DaMude, only one of the first nine matches of the day was decided by pin. But with three forfeits soon to follow, the Eagles' chances faded fast.

JaClay Mixon (170 pounds), Thyrik Legree (182), Clint Wright (195) and Maliek Maldonado (220) were the only Beaufort wrestlers to earn victories.

The Eagles now are off until the Lower State individual tournament Feb. 17-18 at Fort Dorchester. The top four qualifiers there advance to the state meet.

Hilton Head Prep 43, Ashley Hall 34: Halie Parker had 12 points, seven rebounds and four assists, and Gracie Anderson notched a double-double to propel Hilton Head Prep to a road victory.

Anderson finished with 10 points, 10 boards and a pair of assists. Maggie Gasser added nine points for the Dolphins, and Brooke Churchich chipped in six points, five rebounds and four steals.

HHP (7-15) hosts Pinewood Prep on Friday.

Whale Branch 63, Estill 61 (Friday): Andre Watson scored 21 points to push the Warriors to victory. Dee Delaney finished with 15 points, five rebounds, four steals and four assists, and Leroy Perry added 12 points for Whale Branch (14-6 overall, 9-3 Region 5-A).
