Buck Edwards, who runs a mentoring program at Hilton Head Island High School, has won the Champions of Public Education Award from the S.C. School Boards Association. The award, which is given quarterly, honors people whose contributions benefit public schools. People are nominated by school boards, and nominees are judged based on the criteria instead of against each other.

We'll have a look at what Edwards' program does and what he thinks about winning the award later tonight. Check back or pick up Saturday's Island Packet.
