Thrifts announce grants to various Beaufort County charities

Two Hilton Head Island charity thrifts, Church Mouse Thrift Shop and the Bargain Box, have announced a combined $462,000 in cash grants to Beaufort County charities.

BARGAIN BOX

The Bargain Box recently distributed $370,000 to 32 Beaufort County nonprofit groups.

The grants, awarded on need and community impact, went to the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina, Bluffton-Jasper County Volunteers in Medicine, Bluffton Self Help, Boys & Girls Club of Hilton Head Island, Child Abuse Prevention Association, The Children's Center, Citizens Opposed to Domestic Abuse, Coastal Discovery Museum, The Deep Well Project, Family Promise of Beaufort County, First Presbyterian Day School, Heroes on Horseback, Hilton Head Choral Society, Hilton Head Island Safe Harbour, Hope Haven of the Lowcountry, Backpack Buddies of Hilton Head, Island House, Hilton Head Island Recreation Association, Literacy Volunteers of the Lowcountry, Lowcountry Legal Volunteers, Meals on Wheels, Memory Matters, Penn Center, Programs for Exceptional People, Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Coastal Empire, Sandalwood Community Food Pantry, Second Helpings, Special Olympics Area 8, The Sandbox, Storks Nest, Technical College of the Lowcountry, and Hilton Head Volunteers in Medicine Clinic.

CHURCH MOUSE

The Church Mouse, a ministry of St. Luke's Church, recently distributed $92,000 and donated $23,000 in pass-through goods or in-kind donations.

Recipients are Bluffton Self Help, Family Promise of Beaufort County, Helping Hands Ministry, NAMI of Beaufort County, St. Luke's Preschool, Pregnancy Center of the Lowcountry, ACTS Counseling Center, Sandalwood Food Bank, Literacy Volunteers of the Lowcountry, Second Helpings, Beach High School Project, Grateful Hearts Soup Kitchen, Volunteers in Medicine, Esther Project and Memory Matters.

Money was also distributed to mission projects around the world, according to the thrift store.
