Palmetto Dunes owners acquire local real estate company

Greenwood Communities and Resorts Inc., which owns the Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort on Hilton Head Island, has acquired local real estate company Dunes Marketing Group.

Jay Nexsen, president of the resort owner based in Greenwood, expects the move to promote interest in Palmetto Dunes locally and beyond the island.

"Dunes Marketing Group has a name, heritage and reputation we can leverage into more business opportunities within Palmetto Dunes and throughout Hilton Head Island," Nexsen wrote in a statement.

Dunes Marketing Group was founded on Hilton Head in 1979 and has been Greenwood's exclusive real estate agency on the island. It will now operate as a wholly owned subsidiary.

The company has become the top brokerage firm in the Palmetto Dunes, Leamington and Shelter Cove developments, selling more than $5 billion in real estate throughout southern Beaufort County, according to Bill Baldwin, its broker-in-charge.

"It will be a seamless transition. Everything currently in place will remain unchanged," Baldwin said. "This is a really good thing that will make us an integral part of the community."
