Community's support for Thanksgiving Dinner very much appreciated

Published: January 23, 2012

The community of Hilton Head Island showed its true spirit at Hudson's on the Dock on Thanksgiving Day again this year.

Special thanks to:

  • Brian and Gloria Carmines, Andrew and Erin Carmines for hosting this event and their employees, especially chef Chris Carge.

  • St. Andrew By-the-Sea United Methodist Church, a principle sponsor since the dinner began. Without Hudson's and St. Andrew, there would not be a dinner on this scale.

  • The 400-plus volunteers who served, cleaned tables, hosted, scrubbed pots, wrapped silverware and anything asked with a smile.

  • The group outside keeping the mood festive: Yosti, Trillium, Julie Oliver and, of course, Santa and his Elf.

  • The Hilton Head Area Association of Realtors and Mortgage Lenders Association for their financial support.

  • Hudson's vendors; RSVP Linens, U.S. Food Service, The Edge of Knife and Leadership Hilton Head/Bluffton, which donated goods and services.

  • Yellow Cab and Tim Griffin for transporting people who otherwise would not have been able to attend.

  • Our guests who waited patiently in line. One family arrived at 8:30 a.m. for our 11 a.m. meal.

  • The family-style dinner is free but donations are accepted and given to The Deep Well Project. Again this year, the outpouring of community support raised more than $7,000.

We never truly know how many people this dinner helps as we packed the Second Helpings truck with leftovers for many meals in the weeks to come.
