BOYS BASKETBALL

Beaufort High 43, Burke 38: Joey Chaplin scored 19 points as Beaufort High broke a three-game slide with a win in Charleston.

Jordan Broussard added seven points, Thurston Milton had six and Henry Jenkins scored four for the Eagles (11-7).

"We did a good job of executing," Eagles coach Bruce Beasley said. "We had quality possessions throughout the course of the game. This was the most consistent of quality of possessions we've had all year."

Beaufort High plays at Fort Dorchester on Tuesday.

Raekwon Jones scored 10 points to lead Burke (16-4).

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Bluffton 70, Groves (Ga.) 49: Jennifer Giles racked up 33 points and three assists to help the Bobcats cruise past their Savannah foe.

Shakeria Kitty added 16 points and 10 rebounds, and Tibra Wheeler had 11 points, six rebounds, five assists and four steals for Bluffton (14-3). Justice Hill finished with six points, and Alex Bailey had four points and a strong defensive game, according to coach Lonnie Roberts.

The Bobcats return to Region 7-AAA play on Tuesday, hosting Hilton Head High at 6 p.m. in a showdown of teams with perfect region records.

Burke 50, Beaufort High 37: Emani Gray had 12 points, eight rebounds and five assists, and Stephanie Pollock had seven points and five rebounds in the loss for Beaufort High.

The Eagles (5-11) play at Fort Dorchester on Tuesday.

JV: Bluffton 44, Groves (Ga.) 22

WRESTLING

Highlander Duals at Heathwood Hall: Bluffton went 4-1 in the tournament, finishing second to Mitchell, N.C.

The Bobcats (17-3) defeated Charlotte Christian 72-12, Heathwood Hall 78-6, Edisto 38-37, and Mauldin 40-28 before falling to Mitchell 44-27 in the finals.

Lloyd Williams, Austin Farmer and Mike Meyerink went 5-0 on the day for Bluffton, and Kyle Waddell was 3-0. Levi Joly and Harry Chirinos were 4-1, and heavyweight Ladarius Hughes finished 3-1.

The Bobcats host Cane Bay at 6 p.m. Wednesday in a matchup to determine the Region 7-AAA champion.

Beaufort High quad: The home team went 3-0, knocking off Whale Branch, 54-23, Battery Creek, 57-17, and Bishop England, 47-25.

Jake Sharp, Tommy Collins, Michael Holmes, JaClay Mixon and Thyrik Legree all went 3-0 on the day for the Eagles (27-7). Justin Chaplin and Codrian Smalls were 2-0 for Beaufort High, which hosts Fort Dorchester on Monday.

Battery Creek had wins over Bishop England, 52-21, and Whale Branch, 48-36.

JV/Middle School State Tournament: Beaufort High's JV finished third in the meet at Lexington High School in Columbia. Josh Roberts and Connor Lundgaard won championships, while Mike Rentz and Kentrell Seabrook took second.

In the middle school tournament, Beaufort's AJ Alford won a state title, Kameron Spann took third, and William Spann and Jeffery Tookes were fourth.
