2009 Concannon Crimson and Clover Conservancy Red Blend, California, $18

Concannon has been making terrific wines for four generations, and this is a new line extension for them. The Crimson and Clover name reflects its pride in Irish history -- the clover for property and the crimson for the deep color and style of the wine. This is a blend of mostly petite sirah, with cabernet sauvignon, Syrah and zinfandel rounding out the tasting experience. Beautiful aromas of black berries and vanilla flow out of the glass as soon as the wine hits the glass. These aromas transfer to the flavors perfectly with additional notes of blueberry jam and holiday spice. The finish brings forward the bright red fruit again and mingles it with notes of oak and cigar box. A very well made red that would pair perfectly with steak or hearty pasta dishes.
