BOYS BASKETBALL
Bluffton 78, Hardeeville 45: Hardeeville played some of its best basketball of the season for three quarters, according to Bluffton coach Brett Macy, but the host Bobcats pulled away down the stretch. The Hurricanes had cut Bluffton's lead to seven late in the third quarter before losing momentum.
Sophomore B.J. Hill led four Bobcats in double figures, scoring 13 points. Bryson Bell and C.J. Frazier had 12 each, and Demetrius Smalls finished with 11 for Bluffton (8-1), which travels to take on preseason Region 7-AAA favorite Lake Marion on Tuesday.
The Bobcats played without seniors Michael Grant and Dimitri Lowry, who were on football recruiting trip in North Carolina.
First Baptist 66, Hilton Head Christian 47: Taylor MacDonald scored 21 points in a losing effort. Brad Meccariello added 12 points, and Zach Reynolds had seven for the Eagles (7-6), who host Hilton Head Prep at 8 p.m. Tuesday.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Bluffton 63, Hardeeville 22: Senior guard Jennifier Giles finished with 20 points to lead three Bobcats in double figures.
Tibra Wheeler added 13 points for Bluffton, and Shakeria Kitty scored 10. Johnnie Gatson topped four points with a Bluffton-best eight rebounds, and sophomore guard Dynasty Mervin posted two points and eight assists.
Bluffton (8-3) visits Lake Marion on Tuesday.
Hilton Head Christian 41, First Baptist 25: Lauren Davis scored 15 points to lead the Eagles to victory. Addison Bensch added nine points, and Audrey Bensch scored six for Hilton Head Christian (4-8), which hosts Hilton Head Prep at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
