Attendees gather in the capacious engine bay of Hilton Head Island's newest fire station during an open house after Friday's dedication ceremony.

Instead of a ribbon-cutting during Friday's dedication of the Town of Hilton Head Island Fire & Rescue Division's Station 1, dignitaries uncoupled two sections of fire hose to open the facility. From left, Chief Lavarn Lucas, Town Councilman Ken Heitzke, Mayor Drew Laughlin and Town Manager Steve Riley did the honors. The town's newest station is on Cordillo Parkway near the entrance to Shipyard Plantation.
