Huge rally helps Hilton Head High boys top Ridgeland

BOYS BASKETBALL

Hilton Head High 46, Ridgeland 43 (2OT): The Seahawks trailed 30-18 going into the fourth quarter, but outscored the Jaguars 12-0 in the period to tie the game and send it to overtime.

Jake Coltrane made three of four free throws in the second overtime to help the Seahawks (6-7) seal the victory. Michael Julian finished with 14 points, 10 rebounds, four blocks and four steals to lead Hilton Head High. Alex MacDonald added 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Terrance Frazier and Tyron Mikell had 12 points apiece for Ridgeland (5-7), which lost a heartbreaker for the second straight night. The Jaguars lost by one point at Whale Branch on Tuesday.

Berkeley 54, Battery Creek 48: Matthew Bryant scored 21 points to lead Berkeley past the Dolphins in a Region 7-AAA opener.

Justice Oliver and Michael Robinson scored 15 points apiece, and Leroy Jennette added 12 for Battery Creek (3-11 overall, 0-1 region), which plays at Beaufort High on Friday.

JV: Whale Branch 42, Battery Creek 36

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Hilton Head High 38, Ridgeland 34: Sabrina Drammis scored 16 points and hit five of six free throws in the fourth quarter to help the Seahawks win a defensive battle. Drammis also had 13 rebounds, three steals and three assists for Hilton Head High (9-4), which led 17-12 at halftime.

Americal Jenkins added 10 points and eight rebounds for the Seahawks, and Lauryn Bush had four steals and five points, including a key 3-pointer in the fourth. Tashawna Washington had four points and three steals, Shy Flemming had two points and nine rebounds and Macy King scored one. Jamese Franklin had seven rebounds.

April Jenkins led Ridgeland (7-2) with 19 points. Zana McCall and Tiara Nelson had four each, Teleatha Dobson scored three, and Matesha Stephenson and NyJae Boozer scored two for the Jaguars, who won the first meeting this season between the teams, 49-40.

Hilton Head High hosts Beaufort High at 6 p.m. Saturday.

Battery Creek 36, Berkeley 26: Daisja Cannon scored 12 points as the Dolphins opened Region 7-AAA play with a win. Jasmine Wallace added six points, and Alex Bazemore and Alisha Varela had five each for Battery Creek (2-8 overall, 1-0 region), which plays at Beaufort High on Friday.

Berkeley was led by A. Ravenel with 12 points.

JV: Whale Branch 38, Battery Creek 5

WRESTLING

Beaufort High 61, West Ashley 14: The Eagles won eight matches by pin: Jake Sharp (106 pounds), Tommy Collins (120), William Valentin (126), Trey Arant (160), JaClay Mixon (170), Thyrik Legree (182), Clint Wright (195) and Codrian Smalls (220).

Mike Pirozzi (113), Forrest Kimbrell (145) and Brandon Blackman (152) also had wins for Beaufort High (10-3), which will wrestle at Battery Creek's dual tournament on Friday and Saturday.

Whale Branch splits pair: The Whale Branch wrestling team split a pair of duals Wednesday night, defeating Burke, 48-18, but falling to the top-ranked team in Class 1-A, Bamberg-Ehrhardt, 54-24.

The Warriors (11-5) will be wrestling in Battery Creek's Coach Trap Duals on Friday and Saturday.
