The tournament hosts started well at the inaugural Island Classic.

The Hilton Head High boys basketball team rolled over Hilton Head Prep 53-26 on Wednesday. The Seahawks advance to play Hilton Head Christian Academy at 7:30 p.m. today.

The Seahawks' Bennett Murphy scored 15 points Wednesday and Alex MacDonald added eight. Michael Julian contributed with five rebounds, four steals and five blocked shots.

Hilton Head High improved to 5-5.

Charlie Wilmot led Prep with nine points. Prep plays Durham (N.C.) today at 4:30 p.m.

In other games, Hunter-Kinard-Tyler meets St. James at 3 p.m. and Strom Thurmond faces Colleton County at 6 p.m.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Hilton Head Christian Academy 40, Durham (N.C.) Academy 37: Senior Taylor MacDonald scored a team-high 16 points and sophomore Brad Meccariello added 11 points in the Eagles' first-round win at the Island Basketball Classic at Hilton Head High. Christian Academy was ahead by as many as 13 points in the third quarter. The Eagles (6-3) face Hilton Head High today at 7:30 p.m.

JV: Whale Branch 35, Wade Hampton 27

GIRLS BASKETBALL

HHH 42, Escamba (Pensacola, Fla.) 11: Senior Sabrina Drammis scored 24 points and freshman Americal Jenkins pitched in with seven points as Hilton Head High routed Escamba at the Jump Off Plus Tournament in Sandy Creek, Ga.

The Seahawks improved to 8-3 and will take on Duluth (Ga.) today.

Summerville 52, Whale Branch 32: Junior forward S'nitra Mack led Whale Branch with 11 points as the Warriors lost to Summerville in the championship game of the Warrior Classic at Whale Branch. Teammate Shaniqua Johnson was named to the all-tournament team. Whale Branch, which dropped to 5-3, faces Estill on Tuesday.

Wade Hampton 46, Battery Creek 37: Ericka Austin finished with 15 points and three rebounds and teammate Daisja Cannon added 13 points, seven rebounds and two assists in the Dolphins' loss at the Warrior Classic at Whale Branch. Battery Creek dropped to 1-7 and will play Wade Hampton on Tuesday.
