BOYS BASKETBALL

Bluffton 59, Ridgeland 42: Bryson Bell rang up 20 points and 13 rebounds to propel the Bobcats, who led 19-15 at halftime.

"We were a little off to start the game," Bluffton coach Brett Macy said. "In the third quarter, we got our press working and really took it to them."

C.J. Frazier and Demetrius Smalls added 10 points each for Bluffton. B.J. Hill scored all eight of his points in the third quarter.

Bluffton (4-1) is idle until opening play in its holiday tournament on Dec. 28.

Windsor Forest (Ga.) 60, Battery Creek 57: Battery Creek led by six at halftime and by as many as 11 points in the second half before Windsor Forest rallied past the Dolphins in the second round of the Savannah Holiday Classic.

Justice Oliver led Battery Creek with 25 points and eight rebounds, and Michael Robinson had a season-best 19 points, going 3 for 5 from 3-point range.

Battery Creek will face Groves at 5:30 p.m. Monday.

Allendale-Fairfax 59, Whale Branch 48 (Friday): Leroy Perry had 12 points and 11 rebounds, Andre Watson had 12 points and five rebounds, and Dee Delaney hit four 3-pointers for 12 points, but the Warriors dropped a Region 5-A contest on the road.

Whale Branch (6-2, 1-1) plays Wando at 7 p.m. Monday in West Ashley's holiday tournament.

  • GIRLS BASKETBALL

    Bluffton 47, Ridgeland 40: Tibra Wheeler scored 18 points to help Bluffton knock off the defending Class 1-A champions. Shakeria Kitty added 14 points for the Bobcats. Guard Jennifer Giles chipped in nine points. And Dynasty Mervin scored four for Bluffton, which improved to 3-1. The Bobcats play Tuesday and Wednesday in a Florida tournament before hosting the Bobcat Classic on Dec. 28-30.

    WRESTLING

    Cane Bay Duals: Beaufort High finished second in the 16-team dual tournament, falling to Stratford in the championship match, 40-33.

    Beaufort High went 3-0 in pool matches, defeating Colleton County (67-12), Baptist Hill (72-12) and West Ashley (76-6). The Eagles then knocked off the host team, Cane Bay, in the semifinals, 59-15.

    "The boys wrestled well, wrestled tough all day," Eagles coach Bill DaMude said.

    Beaufort High (7-1) wrestles this week at Hilton Head High's Seahawk Slam.

    Lugoff-Elgin tournament: Battery Creek finished ninth, Bluffton 10th and Hilton Head High 17th out of 32 teams competing at the power-packed Lugoff-Elgin Demon Holiday Classic.

    For the Dolphins, Deandre Johnson finished first at 152 pounds and David Ratliff won the heavyweight division. Josh Green finished fifth at 126. And Josh Knight was fifth at 220.

    For Bluffton, Levi Joly (120), Austin Farmer (132) and Mike Meyerink (160) each finished fourth. Nick Stead took sixth at 106.

    "It was a good tournament," Bluffton coach John Hollman said. "It was top-quality the whole way. It's the kind of tournament that shows you where you're at."

    All three teams will wrestle this week at Hilton Head High's Seahawk Slam.

    Abbeville Duals: Whale Branch won the four-team event, defeating Ben Lippen 60-17, A.C. Flora 72-6 and Abbeville 42-36. Among those finished a perfect 3-0 for Whale Branch were Chris Conn, Javon Gardner, Michael Smalls, Mark Rivers, Daniel Makowski and Trey Nelson. Whale Branch (10-4) wrestles this week at Hilton Head High's Seahawk Slam.
