Woman charged in fatal shooting of Burton man found in car

Published: December 14, 2011

A 20-year-old Beaufort woman identified as a person of interest in a fatal weekend shooting was arrested Wednesday and charged with manslaughter.

Roquel Connors shot and killed Mark Kevin Jones, 51, of Burton during a drug deal gone awry Sunday in the parking lot of Canal Apartments off Salem Road, said Beaufort Police Chief Matt Clancy.

Beaufort police investigators say they found a 9 mm shell casing and a spent bullet inside the PT Cruiser, which is registered to Jones’ wife.

Results from an autopsy performed at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston indicate Jones died from a single gunshot wound, according to the Beaufort County Coroner’s Office.
