For blood drive success

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

The American Red Cross Blood Drive at the Carteret Street United Methodist Church on Dec. 1 was our most successful drive in the past several years. We had 68 people sign in and had 60 good units; our goal was 43 units, so we were 40 percent above our goal.

Our special thanks to the Lowcountry Rotary as a co-sponsor. Its members provided 16 donors. Thanks also to the United Methodist Women who provided home-baked cookies, and Chick-fil-A, the Chocolate Tree, Pepsi of Beaufort and Publix for their continued support of our blood drive.

And a special thanks to church volunteers who provide great hospitality to our donors.

To oyster roast sponsors

On behalf of the Technical College of the Lowcountry Foundation and the students we serve, I want to thank the sponsors and attendees of our oyster roast for their generous contribution to the event. The oyster roast was held Oct. 29 and benefitted the foundation's scholarship fund.

The support the foundation received from the following individual and business sponsors ensured the inaugural TCLF Oyster Roast was a success:

Allen Patterson Residential; Association for Continuing Education; Atlantic Asphalt; Atlantic Community Bank; Mr. and Mrs. Andy Beall; Gen. and Mrs. Art Brown; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Church; Coastal Pride; D&S Heating and Cooling; Mr. and Mrs. J. Jefferson Davis; Jim Davidson; DUDE Magazine; Mr. and Mrs. Chalmers Gorman; Green Bug All Natural; Mr. and Mrs. Keith Kahl; Mr. and Mrs. John J. McCann; Kevin Roberson and Leanne Jewett with Merrill Lynch; Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Patterson and Russell Patterson.

As our community's college, TCL strives to provide an affordable, accessible and quality education. Donations given by individuals and businesses such as these make that a reality for hardworking students.

The college's commitment to hands-on learning in a highly technical setting, results in changing our students' lives. The contributions made by private donors, businesses and organizations make a tremendous difference in the lives of many.

A gift to TCL is a gift to our community.
