Man dies after driving car into Bluffton lake

Published: December 7, 2011

The body of an unidentified man has been recovered this evening after he drove his car into a lake in the Sandy Pointe development in Bluffton.

A witness said he saw a man in his 50s drive the late-model, red Toyota sedan into the lake with the window down at about 3:15 p.m. today. The driver was proceeding slowly into the water, the witness said. The witness said he called to the driver, but he did not respond.

A tow truck was used to drag the car from the lake; the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office Dive Team is also on the scene. The driver was removed at about 6 p.m.
