Beaufort High 48, Edisto 46: Keith Carpenter sank a 3-pointer -- his only three points of the game -- with little more than 10 seconds to play, and the Eagles knocked off an Edisto team featuring University of North Carolina-committed Brice Johnson in the Shoney's Invitational.

Jordan Broussard led Beaufort High with 11 points, Keion Marshall scored nine and Anthony White and Henry Jenkins chipped in eight points each.

The Eagles erased a 16-10 deficit after one quarter to lead 27-22 at halftime. Beaufort High took a one-point lead into the final quarter.

Johnson, a forward, finished with 18 points to lead three Edisto players in double figures.

Beaufort High (1-0) resumes tournament action today, with a 6:30 p.m. game against 3-0 Burke.

Whale Branch 64, Battery Creek 52: Andre Watson scored 19 points, and Leroy Perry had 13 points and 16 rebounds as the Warriors stayed unbeaten.

Dee Delaney added six points and 10 rebounds, and Leon Hazel had six points for Whale Branch (4-0).

Justice Oliver led all scorers with 27 points for Battery Creek. Michael Robinson and Leroy Jennette added six points apiece for the Dolphins, who travel to Whale Branch on Wednesday.

Hilton Head Prep 54, Holly Hill Academy 53 (OT): The Dolphins came back from a 16-point deficit to notch their first win of the season. Holly Hill led 25-14 at halftime and 36-31 after three quarters.

John Sheehan had 23 points, five rebounds and five assists to lead the Dolphins (1-1). Shaun Topper added 11 points and eight rebounds, and Randy Young had six rebounds, four steals and four points. Logan Clark finished with seven points and five assists. Coach Bob Sulek credited Jared Woodson with two key plays late in the game to help Prep seal the win.

"It was a great win for us," Sulek said. "We're young and inexperienced. It's a JV team playing varsity. The kids have no quit in them."

Prep wraps up the Colleton Prep tournament at 1:30 p.m today against Palmetto Christian.

Dorchester Academy 48, Thomas Heyward 37: The Rebels fell despite 11 points from senior Will Richardson.

Thomas Heyward trailed 29-17 at halftime.

Thomas Heyward faces Hilton Head Christian at 4:30 p.m. today.


Whale Branch 59, Battery Creek 39: S'nitra Mack and Shaniqua Johnson had double-doubles to help Whale Branch grab its first win of the season.

Mack finished with 21 points and 16 rebounds, and Johnson put up 13 points and 16 rebounds for the Warriors (1-1). Freshman Kemoni Jenkins added 11 points and six steals, and Deborah Fields had six points and 11 rebounds.

"It was an all-around good defensive effort for the team," Whale Branch coach Wilbert Bryant said.

"I was real pleased with the way we came out, intense from the start, and stayed that way for the whole game," he added.

Whale Branch plays at Hardeeville at 6 p.m. Monday.

Daisja Cannon led Battery Creek with 13 points, and Jasmine Wallace added 12. Nikki Hill, Alisha Varela and Diamon Smalls scored four apiece.

Holly Hill Academy 55, Hilton Head Prep 29: The Dolphins fell to 0-2 at Colleton Prep's tournament. Sarah Hancock led Hilton Head Prep with seven points and Maggie Gasser had six. Abby Miles had five rebounds and Halie Parker came up with four steals for Prep, which takes on Palmetto Christian at 9 a.m. today in the final round.

Morgan Cantley led Holly Hill with 15 points, and Tressa Hutto added 14.
