The Jasper County Coroner's Office is hoping dental records will help identify the body of a truck driver killed Tuesday on Interstate 95.
At about 10:15 a.m., a tractor trailer traveling north on the highway veered off the road and into the woods near mile marker 21 at Ridgeland, striking several trees, according to Coroner Martin Sauls.
Authorities on the scene were unable to identify the driver, who was killed instantly, Sauls said.
"We think we know who it is, but we're not sure," Sauls said. "The trauma to the body was such that the victim was not identifiable, so we're pursuing dental records to help identify the victim."
No other injuries were reported.
Sauls said the Ridgeland Police Department is investigating the crash.
