Three area football players have been recognized for their standout seasons.

Beaufort High's Kyle Clark, Ridgeland's Wesley Scott and Whale Branch's Josh Fields have been named to the South Carolina Football Coaches Association Palmetto Champions All-Star football team.

Clark made the team as a kicker, Fields as a kick returner and Scott as a defensive lineman. The Palmetto Champions, a team made up of 25 high school football players and 10 coaches, will be honored Dec. 1 at a banquet in Columbia.

At the banquet, awards will be delivered for top lineman, top special teams player and coach of the year.

This wasn't the first honor for Scott and Clark. The Ridgeland senior was a Shrine Bowl selection, and Clark is headed to the North-South all-star game.

During the regular season, Scott led the Jaguars with 82 tackles and 23 tackles for loss, including 11 sacks. The senior has committed to play at Miami of Ohio.

Clark has routinely booted kickoffs into the end zone for touchbacks and averaged close to 40 yards per punt. He was recognized as the top kicking prospect at the Ray Guy Kicking Academy in May.

Fields averaged 34 yards per return during the regular season. He returned a kick 90 yards for a score Friday during the Warriors' playoff loss to Scott's Branch. He also finished with 14 offensive touchdowns.
