An accident Wednesday in which a Palmetto Breeze bus struck and killed a pedestrian in Jasper County is still being investigated, a S.C. Highway Patrol spokesman said.
Zachary Holland, 28, of Hilton Head Island was struck on S.C. 462 about six miles east of Ridgeland while he was walking in the road, Cpl. Bob Beres has said.
The bus driver, Nellie Jackson, 55, of Varnville, was treated and released Wednesday from Coastal Carolina Hospital, according to authorities. Beres has said she was trying to pass a vehicle in the eastbound lane when the bus hit Holland. No charges have been filed.
Rochelle Ferguson, executive director of Palmetto Breeze, said Jackson remains shaken by the accident, and a timetable for her return to work has not been determined.
"We are taking it day by day," Ferguson said.
Holland was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Jasper County Coroner's Office. None of the 14 bus passengers was injured.
Jackson has been a bus driver for Palmetto Breeze for about seven years, Ferguson said.
