For 'adoption'

The board of directors of Hilton Head Island Safe Harbour would like to thank the South Carolina Repertory Company for again "adopting" our organization for the theater's upcoming season.

Safe Harbour will be partnering for a second season with the repertory company for the preview performances of four of its plays during the 2011-12 season.

Our first party of the new season will take place Wednesday for the preview performance of "Time Stands Still," by playwright Donald Margulies. The subsequent previews will be Nov. 30, Feb. 15 and March 21.

Safe Harbour will receive a major portion of the proceeds of sales for all of these performances. Hilton Head Island Safe Harbour is a nonprofit membership service organization that provides volunteer services to enable residents of Hilton Head Island to stay in their own homes, as long as safely possible, as they grow older.

We thank the South Carolina Repertory Company for its generous support of Safe Harbour's mission.

For junior golf help

The Hilton Head Island Junior Golf Association is wrapping up another successful season thanks to all of the contributors in the Hilton Head Island-Bluffton area community.

We thank the Hilton Head Island PGA chapter for its continued sponsorship, support and guidance. With their staffing support and teaching skills, our junior golf program remains exceptionally strong in South Carolina and the Southeast.

We also thank area golf courses for providing wonderful facilities and venues, providing our juniors the opportunity to play, practice and receive instruction. Each participant is assigned a pro pal, wherein they receive regular small group instruction and eventually qualify for tournament play at these courses.

Several other groups, businesses and associations contribute generously through financial assistance, services or products and gifts and prizes: The Sun City Women's Golf Association, the Sun City Men's 18 Hole Golf Association, The Lowcountry Team Play Association, the AJGA, the Nimmer family, and the SC Junior Golf Association have contributed most generously. Contributors of products and services benefiting the HHIJGA include the Culligan Water Distributorship of Hilton Head and the UPS Stores of Hilton Head and Sun City Hilton Head. Several other friends and businesses contribute gifts and prizes for our fundraising, and volunteers give of their time and talent year after year.

To all who give so much to our program, we applaud you and thank you. We assure you our entire staff will continue to do our best as responsible stewards of each and every gift received so as to ensure the continued success of the HHIJGA.

For EKG grant

The Bluffton Jasper County Volunteers In Medicine would like to thank the Long Cove Club Community Endowment Fund for a grant to purchase a portable electrocardiograph machine.

Having an EKG machine will allow our doctors to test a client who exhibits any symptoms of cardiac problems. All EKG testing will be performed in our clinic, and the results will be immediately available to the doctor. We are extremely grateful for the generosity of the members of Long Cove Club for their many years of supporting local nonprofit agencies.

Also, our thanks to the American Academy of Family Physicians Foundation for providing funds to expand the number of exam rooms in our clinic. This foundation serves as the philanthropic arm of the American Academy of Family Physicians, whose mission is to advance the values of family medicine by promoting humanitarian, educational and scientific initiatives that improve the health of all people.

In Jasper County, 43.6 percent of working families lack health insurance. In Beaufort County, 33.8 percent of working families lack health insurance.

Our mission is to understand and serve the health and wellness needs of the medically under-served who live or work in the town of Bluffton and Jasper County.

Again, our sincere thanks to these foundations.

For email support

As some of you know and many of you don't, after 31 years of living on Hilton Head Island, I accepted an opportunity to come to Southeast Asia and more specifically Vietnam. I arrived here April 15.

I had tremendous support from family and friends. When I got to Tokyo to board my flight to Hanoi they asked for my visa, which I did not have. When the Japanese lady from American Airlines came to tell me that I was going to have to fly back to America, it was fairly unsettling. Fortunately, we got that worked out the next day through my company and the Vietnamese immigration office.

I had a group of about 15 people that I emailed initially, and as I notified more and more people, the list grew. When you are this far away from home, you cherish emails. What has been so inspiring to me is the encouragement and support I have gotten from fellow Realtors, many of whom are competitors. I would like to thank Lottie Woodward, Ruth Parris, Phillip Schembra, James Wedgeworth, Johnny Ussery, Bob Raehn, Larry Page, Mark Desjean, Tom Jacoby, Maria Skrip, Eric Dollenberg, Roni Kincaid, Ron Perry, Bart Whiteman, Yvette Acuff, Richard Kerr, Jeff Hall and David Staley, and a special thanks to Sally Gardocki, who truly captured the "essence" of my experience here.

If you would like to receive my updates, email me at Bobby.Sandell@vn.knightfrank.com.
