VARSITY VOLLEYBALL

Beaufort High tri-match: The Eagles lost a three-set match against region foe Fort Dorchester but bounced back and defeated rival Battery Creek 25-12, 25-18. Battery Creek also fell 25-16, 25-17 to Fort Dorchester in the tri-match.

Alexia Neal had 12 kills in the two matches for the Eagles. Mykalah Smalls had seven kills against Battery Creek, and Ariana Parker added seven kills, four digs, six blocks and two aces in the loss to the Patriots. Victoria Major had five digs as libero.

Tina Kwok had 13 digs in the loss for the Dolphins (8-16); Sarah Anderson recorded three aces, five kills and five digs; and Macala Barnarad had three assists and two aces.

The Eagles (6-7, 3-3 Region 8-AAAA) will take part in the Lowcountry Invitational at Bluffton High School this weekend.

The Dolphins travel to Cane Bay for a tri-match Tuesday.

Hilton Head High tri-match: The Seahawks improved to 8-1 in region play with a sweep of Lake Marion and Berkeley.

Hilton Head High opened the night with a 25-7, 25-5 win against Lake Marion and followed with a three-set victory (27-29, 25-9, 25-17) against Berkeley.

Elaine Natoli had 35 assists, with most of the sets headed to Sierra Davis, who tallied 25 kills and two blocks. Taylor Standen had 12 aces and three kills, and Brantley Harrington added seven kills and four blocks.

The Seahawks (11-5) will travel to the Lowcountry Invitational at Bluffton this weekend.

Whale Branch tri-match: The Warriors remained undefeated in region play and breezed through a tri-match at Ridgeland High School that also included Hardeeville High School.

Whale Branch racked up a bevy of aces as it defeated Hardeeville 25-6, 25-5 and Ridgeland 25-4, 25-12. Vanessa Scott led the way with 20 aces, with Kenyada Moultrie adding 13, Maddy Summerill chipping in 10 and Nicole Fulton adding nine.

Deborah Fields had 12 kills, and Jamie Whalen had four aces and seven kills. Monique Bing dished out 21 assists.

The Warriors (14-2, 12-0 Region 5-A) will travel to the Lowcountry Invitational at Bluffton this weekend.

Thomas Heyward 3, St. Andrew's 1: The Rebels dropped the night's opening game but fought back for the four-set victory (17-25, 25-19, 25-16, 25-20).

Ashlie Layman had 13 kills and was 10 for 10 from the service line. Taylor Ernestine dished out 12 assists, and Andrea Daring had nine assists to go along with two aces.

Chandler Cook had eight kills and four aces, and Kayla Sanders was 23 for 25 serving. Thomas Heyward (14-5, 6-4 Region 2-AA) returns home Tuesday to face Dorchester Academy at 5 p.m.

Porter-Gaud 3, Hilton Head Prep 0: The Dolphins started slow in the opener before closing the gap in the final two games, but they still came up short on the road, falling 25-9, 25-18, 25-22.

Liz Buterbaugh continued a hot season with 13 kills, four blocks and three digs. Mackenzie Brown added two kills and three digs.

Prep (15-11) returns to action Saturday at the Lowcountry Invitational in Bluffton.

VARSITY GOLF

Bluffton tri-match: Led by an even-par 36 from Kylie Nizolek, the Bobcats compiled a team score of 157 and won a home tri-match against Hilton Head High and Wando at Island West Golf Club.

The Seahawks finished second with 175, and Wando shot 195.

Sammie Buchanan and Brandi Hammonds posted 39s for Bluffton, Kasidy Beckel scored a 43, and Hayley Trimmer posted a 55.

Jackie Budidharma and Nathalie Lezcano led Hilton Head High with a 41.

Bluffton and Hilton Head High will return to Island West Golf Club next week, along with Berkeley, for the Region 7-AAA meet.

VARSITY TENNIS

Bluffton 7, Wade Hampton 0: The Bobcats gave a few of their top players the night off but still breezed past Wade Hampton to improve to 8-3 on the year. They will travel to Battery Creek on Tuesday.

Bishop England 4, Hilton Head High 2: Bishop England handed the Seahawks just their second loss of the season. The Seahawks (6-2) host Cane Bay on Tuesday.

Beaufort High 5, Ashley 1 (Wednesday): The Eagles remained undefeated in four Region 8-AAAA matchups by winning four of five singles matches and the lone doubles match. They improved to 12-3.
