Power of pink: Walk for a cure Saturday in Bluffton

The Bluffton Township Fire District Auxiliary is hosting its second annual Lowcountry Rockin' the Pink Breast Cancer Walk on Saturdayat the Bluffton High School track and field area. Registration for the three-mile walk/5K run starts at 7:30 a.m. and opening ceremonies begin at 8:15 a.m. This year's event is presented by the Medical University of South Carolina and Hilton Head Hospital Breast Health Center.

New this year is the option of a timed run and to participate in teams. Prizes will be awarded for teams of five or more who raise the most money, have the most team spirit and have the most team members present the day of the walk.

There also will be food, drinks, entertainment, a bounce house and a silent auction. The pink firetruck from the Pink Heals organization will be on hand again this year to promote breast cancer awareness.

Volunteers and donations to the auction are welcome. All donations can be mailed to or dropped off at the Bluffton Township Fire District headquarters, Attn: Lynn Wiltse, breast cancer walk, 357 Fording Island Road, Bluffton SC 29910.
