Battery Creek athletes visit elementary schools

Battery Creek High School atheltes recently visted two elementary schools.

Members of the swim team met with students at Beaufort Elementary School on Sept. 9. The swimmers ate lunch with winners of the Shell Contest, a reward program for good behavior at the elementary school. Swimmers Krystyn Kibler, Sarah Kardohely, Justin Hague-Townsend and Tres Sanders talked with the younger students about being a high school athlete and the importance of being involved in school. Coach Lydia Williams accompanied the swimmers.

Shanklin Elementary School students were treated to a visit from cross country team members. Alexis Miller, Michael Evans, Mikaila Fry, Willie Brown, Alexis Myers and Erik Barbosa visted fourth-grade classrooms at the school, along with Coach Tyrone Pierce.

Evans and Brown worked with students to write a story about their favorite sandwich. Fry and Miller worked with fourth-graders on sentence completion and read a story to the class. Barbosa and Myers helped some students with math. All the cross country team members also had lunch with the fourth-grade classes. Pierce also met with students in Shanklin teacher Gail Burnes "High Flyers" group to discuss the importance of following directions and focusing on school work.

MISCELLANEOUS

There will be an admission fair for 18 boarding schools from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Oct. 11 at The Westin Hilton Head Resort & Spa.

BATTERY CREEK HIGH SCHOOL

The Interact Club is sponsoring a blood drive for The Lowcountry Blood Alliance. The drive will be from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesday. Community members are welcome to donate blood.

The Battery Creek Alumni Night will be Oct. 7. Football tickets can be purchased two for the price of one in advance. The game against Berkeley High School will begin at 7:30 p.m.

HELPING HANDS

The SADD Club of Battery Creek High School is collecting shoeboxes of all sizes for Operation Christmas Child. Shoeboxes can be dropped off in the front office with Mrs. Grooms.

OTHER

Students who are 18 should see Mrs. Grooms in the front office to register to vote.

The Band Boosters are currently holding a membership drive. The membership forms are available online and in the front office of the school. The membership fee is $5.

First- through fourth-graders will participate in exercises with the Lady's Island Fire Department Smoke Trailer on Tuesday.

There will be a blood drive at the school from noon-4 p.m. Thursday. Walk-ins and appointments are welcome. You can also register for a chance to win a 2012 Honda Civic.

The Parents Association gift-wrap fundraiser begins Thursday.

An admissions representative from Washington and Lee University will be at the school at 3 p.m. today.

An admissions representative from Mercer University will be at the school at 3 p.m. Wednesday.

An admissions representative from Randolph College will be at the school at 3 p.m. Thursday.

Internship applications for juniors and seniors are due Thursday.

First trimester progress reports for middle-school students will be sent home Friday. They must be signed by parents and returned to school.

Career day will be from 8:30-10:30 a.m. Nov. 22. Speakers will speak to classes about various careers and tools needed for those careers.

Parent-teacher conferences are from 4-8 p.m. Oct. 20 or 8 a.m.-noon Oct. 21. Contact your child's teacher to schedule a conference. Activities will be available for children as parents participate in the Oct. 20 conferences.
