VARSITY GIRLS GOLF

The Bluffton High School golf team set a nine-hole school record Thursday, firing a 156 to win a three-team meet at Moss Creek Golf Club.

The Bobcats beat rival Hilton Head High by 23 shots, with Beaufort High School finishing third at 219.

Sammie Buchanan led the Bobcats with an even-par 36, matching Hilton Head High's Lily Bartell for medalist honors. Bluffton's Kylie Nizolek shot 38, and teammate Brandi Hammonds and Hilton Head High's Nathalie Lezcano each shot 39.

Kasidy Beckel (43) and Hayley Trimmer (50) rounded out Bluffton's scoring. Jackie Budidharma (41) and Meredith Lang (63) completed the Seahawks' team score.

Lauren Ware shot 47 to lead Beaufort High.

VARSITY VOLLEYBALL

Region 7-AAA tri-match: Bluffton swept Battery Creek and Berkeley to remain undefeated in region play.

The Bobcats beat Battery Creek 25-8, 25-7 and topped Berkeley 25-10, 25-10 to improve to 19-10 overall and 4-0 in region. Jordan Franklin led the Bobcats with 12 kills, and Dani Bothe and Abby Roulston added eight apiece. Roulston was 18-for-18 serving.

Mackenzie Cooler returned from a knee injury and had five kills and seven assists and was 21-for-21 serving. Grace Collins had 24 assists.

Battery Creek also lost to Berkeley 25-21, 25-18.

Tina Kwok had four aces and four digs, and Sharea Walls had five kills and two aces for the Dolphins (5-15, 0-5 region). Nikki Hill added four kills and Macala Barnard had four assists.

Battery Creek plays another region tri-match at home Tuesday against Hilton Head High and Lake Marion.

Bluffton travels to Effingham County (Ga.) on Monday for a tri-match along with Statesboro (Ga.).

Thomas Heyward 3, Charleston Collegiate 1: Ashlie Layman had a big all-around night with 12 kills, four assists, five aces and four blocks, and Chandler Cook added 10 kills, three aces and three digs as the Rebels won 25-21, 25-14, 14-25, 25-16.

Taylor Ernestine had a team-high 14 assists and was 19-for-19 serving with six aces, and Andrea Daring had 11 assists and a block.

The Rebels (11-3, 3-3 region) play at home against Beaufort Academy on Tuesday.

Whale Branch 3, Bethune-Bowman 0: Vanessa Scott had 15 aces and four kills to lead the Warriors to a region win, 25-7, 25-8, 25-5.

Jamie Whalen had seven aces and two kills, and Deborah Fields added 10 kills and two aces. Shaniqua Johnston (nine aces) and Nicole Fulton (six aces) also contributed to the hot serving night for Whale Branch, and Monique Bing chipped in 22 assists.

The Warriors (6-1, 4-0 region) travel to Estill on Tuesday for a region tri-match along with Allendale-Fairfax.

VARSITY TENNIS

Hilton Head Christian 7, Beaufort Academy 0: Hilton Head Christian picked up its first win of the season, sweeping Beaufort Academy.

Hilton Head Christian hosts Whale Branch at 4 p.m. Monday at Hilton Head Island Beach and Tennis Resort.
