Life in music: Masteller credits his father, a jazz violinist, with his early education in jazz. The New York native was involved in bands growing up, but went to work in the business world and came south to work as a vice president with The Sea Pines Company in the 1970s. He played in jazz groups on the island and Savannah, but established himself in Lowcountry musical lore by opening The Jazz Corner in the Village at Wexford in 1999. The club hosts live jazz seven night a week and has hosted internationally known artists from pianist Ellis Marsalis and guitarist Bucky Pizzarelli.

Favorite artists: Duke Ellington and Louis Armstrong
