Franciscan Center receives $15,000 grant

September 12, 2011

The Franciscan Center of St. Helena Island has received $15,000 to expand its Center of Hope, according to a news release.

The center, one of eight Catholic nuns' programs in the state supported by the Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina, tries to improve the living conditions of disadvantaged families, including migrant workers, the release said.

About 1,200 migrant workers and their families harvest Beaufort County's tomato crop.
