Packet Thank You Letters for Sept. 12

September 12, 2011

For beach sweep aid

On behalf of the Coastal Clean Water Committee, I would like to thank Coastal Plains Insurance and PURE for their very generous support of the 2011 Coastal Clean Water Beach Sweep and Festival.

Despite uncertain weather forecasts, we greatly appreciated their time and effort, without which we could not have succeeded in celebrating Hilton Head Preparatory School's commitment to environmental education.

What began a year ago as a series of school projects geared toward improving our local environment has developed into tangible, environmentally based enhancements to our curricula for all students in all grades, the establishment of an Environmental Advisory Board made up of community members involved in the conservation and preservation of our local ecosystem, and increased awareness and emphasis placed on community service for our young people.

With the vital help of Coastal Plains Insurance and PURE, hundreds of students, parents, community members and visitors to our island participated in Prep's Coastal Clean Water Beach Sweep, which included 10 locations in our area, and the Coastal Clean Water Festival, a musical celebration of a cleaner, healthier, more sustainable environment in the Lowcountry.

Thank you for being an integral part of this annual celebration.

To Piggly Wiggly

On behalf of the Hilton Head Island High School girls varsity basketball team and staff in particular and so many of the school's teams/clubs in general, I would like to thank Dave Martin, the Coligny Plaza Piggly Wiggly and the Shelter Cove Piggly Wiggly for allowing us to raise money by helping out at their stores.

Dave started the "Bagging for Bucks" program several years ago, and it has evolved into a crucial fundraising opportunity for so many of our teams and organizations. In these days of limited funds, the opportunity that Dave and Piggly Wiggly provide us to raise money is so important in our attempts to provide quality programs at the high school.

In addition, our players learn to work hard and to work together if they hope to meet their goals. At the same time, we hope we provide a necessary service to the Piggly Wiggly stores that will help them be even more efficient during their busiest times of the year. I know that Dave and the staff at both stores make our students feel comfortable and assist them when necessary. It seems to be a win-win situation that would never have happened without the initiative and support of Dave and the staffs at both stores.

To The Bargain Box

Thank you to The Bargain Box for its generous donation to the Fast Lane Track Club.

It allows qualifying club members to attend the A.A.U. National Track & Field meet.

It is a fact that sports and recreation help build self-esteem, teamwork skills and a sense of belonging and, of course, a healthier lifestyle.

This was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and The Bargain Box's support of the Fast Lane Track Club is greatly appreciated.

For great treatment

On Aug. 6, I was brought to the Hilton Head Hospital emergency room. I was immediately treated and diagnosed with a transient ischemic attack, a form of stroke. The doctor decided I needed to stay overnight for observation. I was seen by Drs. Cargill, Dingus, Kohli and Sharpe. The primary nurse was Sara.

I believe my complete and rapid recovery was due to the outstanding care from the medical staff.

For Rotary donation

On behalf of our board of directors, our volunteers and, most importantly, our clients, I would like to express our sincere appreciation for the very generous donation made by the Bluffton Rotary Club's "Believing In Bluffton" fundraising event.

We also wish to thank the club members who all took an active role in this fundraiser, which solely benefited Bluffton Jasper County Volunteers in Medicine.

We deliver primary health care, health education and preventive disease education through our free medical clinic to uninsured and underinsured residents and workers of the greater Bluffton area and Jasper County who meet our financial criteria.

The need is overwhelming for free health care to those who currently do not have health insurance.

Thank you all for your hard work to allow neighbors to help neighbors.

For 12-step help

The board of directors of the YANA Club wishes to thank the Community Foundation of the Lowcountry and the business community of Hilton Head Island for their support of our mission to provide a facility where 12-step groups can meet for recovery and fellowship that is safe, secure and convenient.

The foundation approved a $7,395 grant to repair and replace screening landscape that was destroyed by the widening of Mathews Drive and the addition of a bike path. Attendees of 12-step recovery groups can once again feel their confidentiality is protected while at The YANA Club.

Our deep appreciation extends to Snell and Associates Landscape Contractors for donating the design of the plan and to Earth Systems, which donated the labor to install a new advanced drip irrigation system to maintain our lovely new plantings. The consideration and generosity of these businesses constituted considerable savings for the YANA Club.

It is gratifying to live and work in a community that actively embraces the recovery community in achieving and maintaining continued sober living on Hilton Head.

To Church Mouse

A big thank you to the Church Mouse Thrift Shop sponsored by St.Luke's Church of Hilton Head Island.

Hearing that the Hunger and Homeless Coalition's Backpack Buddies program wanted to provide books to backpack recipients, along with food on the weekends to nourish minds as well as bodies, the Church Mouse donated 175 slightly used books for children.

Once again, generous and caring people of Hilton Head have stepped up and provided a solution.
