EVENTS

  • The school district's Consolidated College Fair will be held Sept. 22 at Bluffton High School. Juniors and seniors from seven high schools, including local private high schools, will attend. Students will meet with college counselors from more than 75 colleges. Details: Kelly Homan, 843-706-8906

  • HELPING HANDS

  • DoSomething.org and Staples are teaming up with ABC Family for the Staples for Students Do Something for kids in need national school supply drive. Beaufort-area teens are encouraged to collect school supplies and drop them off at the nearest Staples store through Sept. 17. Staples customers will be able to get involved by donating $1 or more at any Staples store. All school supplies and donations will be given locally to the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Lowcountry.   • BATTERY CREEK HIGH SCHOOL

    EVENTS

  • The SADD Club will be conducting an environmental scan from 2:30-4:30 p.m. Tuesday. The students will be doing a survey on the number of alcohol and tobacco ads and product placement in local convenience stores, grocery stores and drug stores. Details: Mrs. Grooms, 843-322-5580

  • HELPING HANDS

  • The SADD Club is collecting shoeboxes of all sizes for Operation Christmas Child. Shoeboxes can be dropped off in the front office with Mrs. Grooms.

  • Students who are 18 should see Mrs. Grooms in the front office to register to vote.

  • Interact Club will vote for officers at 1 p.m. Wednesday.

  • There will be a ninth-grade parents meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Learning Center.

  • If your child recieves free or reduced lunch and you'd like them to receive free tutoring after school, plan to attend the Supplemental Educational Services Fair at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

  • The Grandparents Raising Grandchildren support group for residents of Beaufort County will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Beaufort Elementary. Childcare is provided.

  • OTHER

  • Beaufort Elementary school held two assemblies to observe the 10th anniversary of 9/11 on Sept. 9. Representatives from city government and the Beaufort Fire and Police departments were invited. Parents and students who have family members serving in the military were recognized during the assemblies.

  • The district is now offering an instructional text-messaging service for middle and high school students.   • The first SIC meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Sept. 20 in the media center.

  • The school commemorated the 10th anniversary of 9/11 in a ceremony in the memorial garden Friday. Invited guests included Senator Tom Davis, school board chairman Fred Washington Jr., Police Chief Matt Clancy and Representative Shannon Erickson. The school's string quintet performed, as did eighth-grade drama students.

  • The school's 100th birthday celebration is planned for Sept. 24.

  • The Fall Book Fair begins at 6 p.m. Sept. 19 with a pizza party in the Commons. The fair will be open Tuesday through Friday of that week. To volunteer: rcc@riverviewcharterschool.org

  • Volleyball is being offered to sixth- and seventh-graders through Tidewatch. To join, you must have a completed Tidewatch enrollment form, which are available online and in the front office.   • ST. PETER CATHOLIC SCHOOL

    ACHIEVEMENTS

  • The school's garden has been designated a Certified Wildlife Habitation by the South Carolina Wildlife Federation. The garden received the certification because it provides the four basic habitat elements needed for wildlife to survive: food, water, cover and places to raise young. Special thanks go to Frank Seguin for his work on the garden and Michael Brock for seeking the certification.

  • EVENTS

  • There is a fundraiser planned to help a student's family offset some recent hospital costs. A spaghetti dinner will be held at 6 p.m. today at Cat Island Pub. The cost is $10 per adult. Money raised will be given to the family.
