WINE
2010 The White Knight Moscato, California; $13
Moscato is quickly becoming one of the hottest white wines in the country, offering a fruit-forward, aromatic, fresh-tasting experience. This wine starts with a nose full of summer floral notes. Lilacs, jasmine and honeysuckle fill the glass along with notes of ripe pears. Your mouth will start to water for that first sip. Once the wine hits those tastebuds it will not disappoint. Sweet ripe pears, nectarines and yellow apples take over the tasting experience. They then slowly give way to a refreshing acidity with notes of candied ginger, citrus and a clean mineral quality. All of the flavors hold together perfectly making for a well-integrated wine and tasting experience. This is a great food wine. Match it with seafood and Asian-inspired dishes.
SPIRIT
Cupcake Chiffon Lemon Citrus Vodka, United States; $18
Cupcake has introduced a line of vodkas in a wide and delicious array of flavors. There's devil's food, frosting and lemon chiffon. All of them are true to their name in taste and intensity, making for interesting additions to almost any cocktail. The lemon chiffon starts with a nose full of sweet, ripe lemons and a hint of vanilla. Once it hits the mouth the flavors explode. Notes of creamy lemon custard, vanilla and citrus zest fill out the tasting experience with just the right amount of kick. This vodka has the perfect amount of fruit without being overly sweet. It's a nice treat to mix into a cocktail or with a tonic or soda.
