  • The first day of school is Tuesday.

  • A room mom meeting will be at 8 a.m. Thursday in the Lower School Activity Room. All Lower School room moms are encouraged to attend.

  • A back-to-school family cookout for grades K-6 will be from 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday.

  • A senior parent meeting will be at 7 p.m. Aug. 22 in the media center.

  • Lower School parents' night will be at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 23 in the gymnasium

  • A new parent coffee will at 8 a.m. Aug. 24 in the cafeteria.

  • The school's Operation 100% reading program needs volunteers for two hours a week teaching first-and second-graders. No experience is required. Details: Linda Baird, 843-342-6640

  • The cost of elementary lunch will rise to $1.45. The changes will only affect the cost of lunch, not breakfast.

  • Strive to Excel's Hawkfest 2011 back-to-school community festival will be held from 3-8 p.m. Aug. 27 at Mitchelville Beach Park on Hilton Head Island. Craft vendors are invited to participate.   • New student orientation is from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Lower School commons.

  • Middle School orientation experience is from 11:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m. Tuesday.

  • Lower School "meet the teacher" is from 1-2 p.m. Tuesday.

  • The second annual Coastal Clean Water Festival will be held from 5 to 10 p.m. Aug. 27 at Shelter Cove Harbour on Hilton Head Island. The school will present a free evening of music, food and environmental education. Festivities will include live music, bounce houses, local food vendors and educational booths for environmental groups. All local business and community groups whose continued success depends on a healthy marine environment are invited to participate with an informational booth at the event.   • Back-to-school nights will be held at 6 p.m. Aug. 31 for Pre-K, kindergarten, and first grade at M.C. Riley Early Childhood Center; and Sept. 1 for grades 2, 3, 4 and 5 at M.C. Riley Elementary School.

  • Parents or guardians of all students, including returning students, must complete a registration packet and submit two proofs of residency (a lease or mortgage statement and a utility bill) each year. If you have not done so, stop by the school and complete this process.

  • Kindergarten parents are invited to join the PTO for light refreshments today in the school cafeteria.

  • A PTO "meet and greet" will be at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday. You may also join the PTO for $5.

  • Friday is spirit shirt day.

  • Virtual Summer School Reward Party for students is at 2 p.m. Friday.

  • SEA PINES MONTESSORI ACADEMY

  • A "Daddy/Mommy & Me Class" will be from 9-10 a.m. Tuesday. This class is for SPMA families as well as families in the community with children ages 12 months to 2 years old. Reservations are required. Details: 843-785-2534

  • First-year Lower Elementary and first-year Upper Elementary students will have orientation from 8:15-11:30 a.m. Friday.

  • A "meet and greet" for all families and students to visit their teachers and classrooms will be from 2-3 p.m. Friday.
