Gazette Thank You Letters for Aug. 15

For Dixie series help

I would like to thank our community for its support and encouragement during the Dixie Boys World Series on behalf of Beaufort's 14-year-old All-Star Team.

The team consisted of coaches Jim Pike, Brian Gregory, and Art Smith; and the players and their families: Carson Gregory, Sheldon Smith, Mattison Pike, Clyde Parker, Keaton Butler, Connor Lundgaard, Shuler Black, John Heys, Bradley and Louis Brown, Alex Tokar, Andrew Jezewski, and Jordan Bates.

The response from folks all over the area for our hometown team was amazing, and we are grateful to those who attended and cheered. While we're sorry that we didn't win it all, we're proud of our results. The fans who attended played a huge part.

We'd like to thank the volunteers who worked the concessions, gates and T-shirt sales; the announcers who called the plays; and the Beaufor County workers and staff who kept the fields in good shape for play and provided ice, food and support during the week. This undertaking took many hours of planning before the event and many hours during the week.

We're grateful for the audio/video provided by the county so our friends and family could watch from home if they couldn't be at the games. Thanks to the "Blue" who called games in the heat in all their garb. Thanks to the Dixie Boys staff who worked diligently to produce this event.

It was a good effort by all. Thanks for great memories.

For JAWS software

The Beaufort County Library System would like to thank the Beaufort Lions Club for its generous donation of JAWS software to improve Internet access for the visually impaired at the Beaufort library.

JAWS is a screen reading and screen magnification software for blind and visually impaired computer users. JAWS helps users access a whole world of information, education and job-related applications for browsing the Web, reading or writing emails, working with spreadsheets or accessing information in a database.

JAWS software is the product of choice for blind and visually impaired people around the world. Thanks to the Beaufort Lions Club, visually impaired customers using the Beaufort library will be able to truly discover the world at the library.

As we look to new ways to leverage our library resources and work with community organizations to help support those needs, certainly the Beaufort Lions Club has provided an excellent example of ways we can all work together for the betterment of Beaufort County.

For blood drive

Thanks to Publix, Chick-fil-A of Beaufort, The Chocolate Tree, Pepsi-Cola Bottling of Beaufort and the Carteret Street United Methodist Church Methodist Women, the American Red Cross blood drive sponsored by the church Aug. 4 was a great success.

Fifty-six units of blood were collected to help save lives wherever needed, to include all requirements of the United States military around the world.

Thanks especially to our faithful donors, many of whom have donated more than 10 gallons to this most worthy of causes.

Also thanks to our six first-time donors.

The next blood drive at Carteret Street United Methodist Church will be held from noon to 6 p.m. Oct. 6.

To hospital staff

I'm thankful for such a wonderful and caring staff at the Beaufort Memorial Hospital Surgery Center, where I recently had a minor procedure performed.

Everyone in my pre-operation experience went above and beyond their professional duties. They were all very understanding of my two young children, answering their questions, engaging them in the process as much as possible, and even giving them stickers because they sat so well while I had my blood work done.

On the day of surgery, everyone was very nice and explained everything that was going on. I was visited by the operating room nurse, a woman from the lab, the anesthesiologist, nurse anesthetist and my doctor. Everyone explained everything very well to me and made sure I understood what was going to happen. Most of them also apologized for asking me questions that I had probably already been asked, but I greatly appreciated the care.

I spent most of my day with another nurse because it took me more than three hours to "recover." She was so amazing. She actually even thanked me for being so patient with everything, which amazed me because it was my body's fault that the recovery took so long.

I am truly grateful that I encountered that many people and they all had such positive attitudes.
