Six people were injured this morning in a two-vehicle wreck on U.S. 278 near Sun City Hilton Head, according to Capt. Randy Hunter, public information officer for the Bluffton Township Fire District.

At about 10 a.m., the fire district was dispatched to the intersection of U.S. 278 and Palmer Grace West. A Mercedes SUV was overturned and four people were entrapped, Hunter said. Due to the number of patients and the location, rescue crews from Bluffton Township Fire District, Beaufort County EMS, Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office and a unit from Jasper County handled the incident.

Six people were transported to local hospitals, Hunter said. U.S. 278 was down to one lane westbound for about 45 minutes.
